Balkan Grill play their own style of World Punk, combining songwriter Ned Alphabet’s love of 1980s Ex-YU new wave/punk, folk music from the Balkans, Black Sea & Persia, and loud garage rock.
Balkan Grill formed as a one off punk rock dada experience for Mojo Records regular monthly Rock N Roll Club nights, debuting on 7th Oct 2011. Following an enthusiastic crowd response, replete with unplanned encores, the band received a number of gig offers in the following months. Since it’s inception, the band has moved through a number of line-ups, the only constant being bandleader Ned Alphabet. Previous members include Aleksander Delic-Benderovski aka Alex Daly(bass), Simeon Ljubicic aka Simon Li (drums), Pet McLalic aka Patrick McLaughlan (fill in bass), & Charlie Ekmanovic aka Carl Ekman (bass). The current line-up consists of Ned on guitar/vocals, Johnny Flame on drums/b vocals, and Dr Igneous Kathexy on bass/b vocals. The Grill continue to gig and build their following, all with the aim of spreading the musical miracle of World Punk.
